BARNARD Castle neighbourhood policing team has welcomed a new bobby to the beat.
PC Mark Gilchrist is picking up the reins from PC Stephen Purchase who has moved into prison handling within the force.
PC Gilchrist spent almost 12 years in Darlington responding to 999 emergencies before he joined the neighbourhood team where he tackled concerns in the community, ranging from neighbour disputes to anti-social behaviour.
The keen rugby player and family man said: “I love engaging with people and the community, having already met lots of the Barnard Castle and Teesdale residents, I’ve received a warm and refreshing welcome.
“I look forward to meeting many more of you and working with our partner agencies in maintaining what appears to be a safe, pleasant place to live and work.
“You will see me regularly out on foot patrol around the town so please stop and say hello.”
Teesdale, Weardale and Crook Inspector Edward Turner said: “I’m delighted to have him join the team. He has a wealth of experience in policing and is a huge asset to us here.
“We wish Stephen all the best in his new role.”
