Maureen’s ‘eggs-traordinary Easter treat for kids

ALL SMILES: Johny and Nicola Maude with 21-month-old Sophie were looking forward to the chocolate treat

A BARNARD Castle grandmother who was unable to visit her daughter’s recently born twin boys at Easter decided to spread some seasonal cheer and bring a smile to children in the town instead.
Maureen Bousfield took to the streets dressed in a giant chicken outfit to distribute hundreds of Easter eggs.
“It started off as just something to do over the weekend and keep me occupied as I can’t see my grandchildren at the moment,” she said.
Husband John entered into the spirit of things, donning a home-made rabbit costume to accompany his wife as the Easter bunny. As word spread by social media of Mrs Bousfield’s adventure, donations of eggs poured in.
“I got donations from Morrisons, Vintage Essence, the Co-op garage and family and friends,” she said.
In the end, there were about 150 normal sized eggs and 400 Cadbury’s crème eggs to hand out.
Mrs Bousfield left the eggs at any homes where she spotted a teddy bear in the window.
Some eggs were simply left in the gardens, while at others, grateful youngsters came out to thank her from a safe distance.
Mrs Bousfield’s daughter Catherine, who lives at Eggleston, gave birth to twin boys about two months ago and are brothers to her granddaughter.
“I have not seen them since the lockdown, so this is really for them,” she said.
Mrs Bousfield’s striking costume came courtesy of the internet, while husband John’s was created at home the morning before they headed out.
