A SCHEME that provides care packages to those in need during the Covid-19 crisis is set to continue through the summer holidays thanks to the generosity of Masonic Lodges in Barnard Castle.
The programme, run by The Hub, at Shaw Bank, currently provides food and necessities to about 100 homes across Teesdale where people are either self-isolating or have found themselves in financial difficulty.
The scheme also helps keep the Barnard Castle economy ticking over because all of the care pack items are bought from shops in the town. At its height the scheme was supporting 150 households. The scheme received a £2,500 boost from the Masonic Charitable Foundation which was arranged by lodges based in the town.
Rachel Tweddle, of The Hub, said: “The Masons have been supporting us with small donations throughout. This £2,500 means we can deliver food right through the summer holidays.”
