Major police response to incident near Middleton-in-Teesdale

Police at the scene on the way into the village

THERE has been a major police response to an incident near Middleton-in-Teesdale with officers closing the main road into the village earlier this evening and residents reporting seeing armed cops.

Police shut the B6282 at about 4pm. It has since reopened and at about 5.30pm there were three police jeeps and a police dog van parked outside two houses on the approach to Middleton.

A helicopter has also been seen in the area.

Police at the scene said they were not able to comment at this time.
