Laughter all the way for Guides at summer camp

ALL SMILES: The Barnard Castle contingent at camp

Barnard Castle Girlguiding Division

ON July 27, a team from Glaxo came along to Barnard Castle Guide HQ to repaint all the internal walls of the building.

The paint was also supported by S&A merchants. This has given the building a well deserved freshen up as it is six years since it was reopened and painted after the fantastic new facility was built.

Next on the agenda, 56 members of the division went to Waddow Hall, Clitheroe, for a division camp. There were 28 Brownies, 11 Guides, one Ranger, three Trefoil ladies and the rest were leaders.

We all camped for three nights and took part in various activities including bushcraft, grass sledging, abseiling, caving, canoeing and raft building, as well as orienteering, mini Olympics, crafts and a big camp fire with other units also staying at the venue.

All the girls had a great time and a lot of new friendships were made.

The adults also took part in many of the activities with lots of laughter. There were new experiences for all attending and for many it was an exciting adventure from start to finish. My thanks go to all the adults for making the event happen and the parents/guardians of the girls for letting them come along during their summer holiday.

A new programme has been launched for all sections of Girlguiding.

We are aiming to celebrate this with a roadshow around the division area from September 3-7.

This year marks 70 years for 4th Barnard Castle Brownies and we would like to invite any past members to our celebration evening on September 7 at Barnard Castle.

The new resources will be available to view at all the events as well as a chance to talk to the girls and adults currently involved.

We would like to attract girls and adults to the events who may be interested in getting involved.

We are re-opening a second Rainbow unit in Barnard Castle in September and opened a new Guide unit in Cockfield just before the summer.

As we continue to grow in numbers of girls we also need adult help, and leaders to come in to continue and support this work.
