COMMEMORATIVE railings to mark the centenary of Middleton-in-Teesdale’s Women’s Institute have been officially unveiled.
Lady Barnard was invited along to cut the ribbon at the railings on the village green.
The railings were funded by Teesdale Action Partnership (TAP) and the Stephen Mitchell Memorial Fund and produced by Nigel Hodgson.
Group president Suzanne McBain said: “We are very happy that our WI has been able to continue for 100 years. It was nice that Lady Barnard was able to come along.
“Our thanks go to our donors and to Nigel Hodgson for making the railings.”
Members of the WI group along with parish councillors, TAP co-ordinator Adam White and residents met at the site to see the unveiling.
Two-year-old Caleb Kneller presented Lady Barnard with a bouquet of flowers.
Lady Barnard said: “I am flattered to be asked to come along and cut the ribbon.
“Congratulations to Middleton WI for raising the money for the new railings.”
Everyone was invited to the village’s Masonic Hall afterwards for coffee.
