IT may have been a damp day at Saturday’s annual It’s a Knockout fundraising event which was organised by Barney charity The Clique, but fun was had by all competitors and spectators in attendance.
There was an afternoon of fun and games based on the popular TV show of yesteryear – but this year’s event may be the last in its current format.
Moving forward to 2025, when The Clique celebrates its 50th anniversary, changes are planned to an event which has been a part of the calendar since 2018. The weather certainly didn’t help the turnout this year and was a contributing factor to only having ten teams competing.
David Harper, from The Clique, said, “We celebrate our 50th anniversary next year, and to commemorate it we’re going to have a big party.
“I think the knockout will take a backseat for a year, but we’ll still have entertainment for children on the side.
“It’ll be around the same time but we’re going to focus on having more music on and more entertainment.
“We want to say a big thank you to the town for the help they’ve given us in fundraising and general support for the charity.”
On Saturday, Barnard Castle FC Juniors came away as overall champions after an afternoon of challenges and games. They now have their name engraved on the Trevor Joel trophy which is awarded to the winners of the event.
Mr Joel was a valued member of The Clique and the town as a whole before his passing in 2017.
