Kettle’s on for the return of popular community cafe

WE'RE BACK: Tasty treats will once again be on offer at Startforth Community Centre with the reopening of their monthly community cafe run by volunteers. Pictured are Jeanette Brown

ORGANISERS of Startforth Community Cafe are looking forward to welcoming customers back when they reopen their doors on Monday, August 2.
The cafe, which operates out of the village’s community centre, was launched two years ago to help bring the residents of the parish together.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the monthly cafe has been unable to run, but with restrictions relaxed organisers are hoping more residents will pop along.
Judith Rodwell, from the community centre, said: “It’s been very difficult but I think we have managed to come through it. It’s a sign that we are getting back to normal and it’s going to be good to see the people that we haven’t seen for such a long time.
“This will be a start of getting their lives back in a very measured, cautious way.
“The cafe was getting quite a few people in before the pandemic and it was good to see many young families coming along and we hope to see them back.”
The cafe is run by volunteers, who whip up a variety of mouth-watering treats including home-made cakes, scones and sausage rolls and are also on hand for a chat. In addition to refreshments, which are 50p per item, there is a play area, complete with toys for youngsters.
The cafe will be open on the first Monday of each month from 10am-11.30am.
