Jean’s cards raise a tasty £200 for special lunch

TASTY TREAT: Jean and Brian Whitely at The Teesdale Restaurant where they hosted a lunch for the Games For The Brain dementia support group

MEMBERS of a dementia support group enjoyed a two course lunch together thanks to the creative talents of one of its members.

Lunch at The Teesdale Restaurant, in Barnard Castle, was made possible through the sale of greetings cards hand made by Games For The Brain member Jean Whitely.

More than £200 was raised through the sale of her cards at the restaurant ,enabling Mrs Whitely to host the lunch for 21 people last month.

She said: “I was all on edge this morning because of the weather.

“I was worried if anyone would turn up. It is exciting. It is nice for us all to get together and have a chat and a meal.”

She added: “I would like to thank Craig Stephenson, the chef, who has helped with fundraising.

“I would also like to thank the staff and customers who made it possible to achieve this.”

In total, the couple raised £235 for the lunch.

Thanks to a discount rate at the restaurant, Mrs Whitely was able to offer the group, which has been going for about two years, a selection of menu options to choose from for a main and a dessert.

Nicky Tulloch, of the Alzheimers Society which organises the group, said: “I am so proud of Jean. It is so nice that she wants to share it with everyone.”
