PUPILS at Ingleton School were presented with an Investing in Children award to mark the community work they have carried out throughout the year.
As part of the school’s commitment to Investing in Children pupils in years one to six have a student council. They hold annual elections to appoint officials and then meet on a weekly to discuss any issues and organise fundraising events.
Michelle Briggs, who oversees the school council, said: “They set and write their own agenda and minutes and it is a great way to ensure their voices are heard and the issues which are important to them are addressed.”
The children have carried out a number of community fundraising events, collecting funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
The award was presented by Chloe Brown of Investing in Children at a recent assembly.
She said: “Investing in Children is a real way to make sure each child has a voice. It’s empowering them.”
