Hundreds expected to sign up for Holi colour run

UNDER STARTERS' ORDERS: Barnard Castle town clerk Martin Clark armed with a pressurized colour sprayer and powder is inviting people to sign up to a colour run that forms part of the spring Holi festival next month

AS many as 600 people are expected to join in a fun colour run in Barnard Castle next month.
The run forms part of the town council’s Holi festival to spread joy and celebrate spring. Entrance to the event on Saturday, March 19, is free and everyone taking part with receive a complementary white T-shirt.
Town clerk Martin Clark said people need to book a slot between 11am and 3pm, setting off from Scar Top. The route will take runners down the paths to the River Tees.
He added: “Groups of up to 30 will set off every 12 minutes. There will be three colour stations with three people at each station. We have some pressure fire extinguishers filled with colour for the end.
“We will be arranging for 800 T-shirts and we expected between 600 and 800 people over four hours”
Live music and entertainment will be provided at Scar Top for people to enjoy while they wait to set off on the run.
A full programme of events is planned for the Holi festival weekend which starts on Friday, March 18, when there will be buskers at The Witham from 3pm as well as a workshop focussing on spring and colour for children and adults.
A colourful celidh will take place at The Witham that night.
Along with the colour run and live entertainment at Scar Top, people can enjoy watching traditional dance at The Witham on the Saturday.
Activities move to The Bowes Museum on Sunday where there will be a colour parade followed by a community fair at Barnard Castle School.
People can ring the town council on 01833 690970 to book their place in the fun run.
