Holiday fun proves popular with visitors to The Hub

FIZZY FUN: Tyler Hall

SLATE grey skies and a chill wind did little to deter the enthusiasm of visitors to a special outdoor trail set up for the school holidays.
The reason was simple – there were sweets to be had.
Staff at Barnard Castle’s TCR Hub dreamt up the Sweetie Trail of Pure Imagination – complete with Wilma Wonka.
Youngsters given a number of challenges to complete as they made their way around the trail, such as having a go at the fruit shoot and finding the Easter bunnies.
Having completed all the activities, they were greeted by Wilma and presented with a goody bag.
Sarah Gent, family activities co-ordinator at The Hub, said the trail, which was open for three days, had proved popular with young and old. She said: “We wanted to do something that enabled people to enjoy time together outdoors and have some fun. We worked with a team of creative people to make the installations inspired by sweets.”
Pupils from Butterknowle and Ingleton Primary School had also made displays of sweets they had invented for the trail.
Some 88 groups of up to six people – more than 400 people in all – tackled the trail.
To ensure the current Covid restrictions were observed, each group was given a timed slot, there were no more than two families in each group and social distancing was in place.
