Observant visitors have noticed that a chunk of the rock face of High Force waterfall has collapsed into the River Tees.
Photographer Nick Coggins spotted the change when he visited the attraction on Friday, January 23.
The affected area is noticeable because of the difference of the colour of the stone.
Raby Estates confirmed that part of the stone face had come off through natural processes.
Andrew Lindsey, general manager at High Force Hotel said: “There is a small area of natural erosion which is expected in an active river landscape and is part of the ongoing natural evolution of the waterfall.
“This is likely to have been influenced by the recent winter conditions when High Force was frozen and doesn’t indicate anything unusual in geological terms.
“The site is monitored regularly, and we work closely with relevant partners to ensure visitor safety.
“These ongoing changes are something visitors can learn more about during guided stargazing and geology experiences at the waterfall, which explore how modern environmental conditions continue to shape High Force.”
