Guides are back meeting face-to-face

TASTY TREATS: Lucy Willsmore during the virtual activities in lockdown

GIRLGUIDING is back.
The organisation has units in Barnard Castle, Cockfield, Gainford, Middleton and Staindrop.
During Covid-19, the girls met and completed activities via Zoom.
Debby Brown, division commissioner, said: “With this year being 50 years of North East England Region we took the opportunity to join all ages together for a virtual sleepover weekend to complete activities towards the NEE Challenge Badge.
“We had over 30 girls participate from five years to adults.”
Activities included a scavenger, Swan making, an Alice in Wonderland story and singing. Activities were spread across three sessions. Many of the girls also made their own shelters at home to sleep in.
Ms Brown said: “Many units are now back meeting face-to-face, with strict guidelines to ensure we are Covid safe, and as much as possible outside
to make the most of the weather.
“If there are any girls who would like to join us or adults who would like to help, we would love to hear from them.
“We have had lots of girls being enrolled and making their Girlguiding promise and we have had lots of badges and awards to present for work done during lockdown meetings and at home.”
Rainbows are aged five to seven, Brownies seven to ten, Guides ten to 14 years and Rangers 14 to 18.
Visit Girlguiding.org.uk to register an interest and someone will get in touch. Alternatively, contact Debby Brown on 07776 140522.
