Youngsters in the upper dale have come together to support a sailing club after a burglary.
Children and young people attending the Utass (Upper Teesdale Agricutlural Support Services) drop-in raised £174 for Teesdale Sailing and Watersports Club, as a heartfelt gesture of appreciation and support.
The cash was raised through a sponsored walk, an idea put forward by the young people themselves after learning that the sailing club had been broken into and vital equipment had been stolen.
Youth work lead at Utass Gina Richardson said: “Wanting to give back and show their gratitude, the group chose to support the club that has warmly welcomed us to Grassholme Reservoir for its annual sailing event.
“Teesdale Sailing and Watersports Club has played an important role in supporting Utass by inviting children and young people to take part in sailing activities… to build confidence and enjoy new experiences. The sponsored walk not only raised funds but also demonstrated the compassion, community spirit, and social awareness of the young people involved.
“Their actions reflect a strong desire to support local organisations that make a positive difference in their lives and the wider community.”
Utass and the sailing club thanked Eco Simplified, a local business, for its generous donation of replacement junior wetsuits.
The wetsuits are vital for ensuring children and young people can safely and comfortably access sailing opportunities at Grassholme Reservoir.
Ms Richardson said: “Utass would like to thank Point North for enabling youth engagement to happen and everyone who supported the sponsored walk and contributed to the fundraising effort, and to again extend heartfelt appreciation to Teesdale Sailing and Watersports Club for their continued support and commitment to young people.”
