Grant will help young carers

VITAL SUPPORT: Vicky Pollard

A DALE primary school is keeping up its good work with young carers – children who look after their parents or other adults at home.
Bowes Hutchinson’s Primary School was this autumn awarded a charter from The Bridge Young Carers Service, which supports pupils across County Durham whose childhood is different from most other young people.
The school runs a group for young carers so they can enjoy activities and games that they might otherwise struggle to do at home.
Teachers Vicky Pollard and Dot Headley are thrilled after receiving a grant to continue the work.
Mrs Pollard said: “With the grant we got some equipment the children can enjoy in the outside classroom which is large cushions, a rainbow rug, canape and lego that the children can enjoy.
“Also with the grant the children have two new scooters on the way to enjoy at breaktime.
“We would also like to thank Mrs Gedye for ordering all the equipment.”
