A SUPERMARKET has installed a festive fundraiser so customers can donate to a dale charity as part of their weekly shop.
The Christmas giving tree has been put up at Morrison’s, in Barnard Castle.
Baubles come in three denominations – £1, £2 and £5 – and can be popped into baskets and trolleys and then scanned at the till.
Money collected is being given to TCR Hub, Morrison’s chosen charity, in the form of gift cards that can be spent on food items for distribution.
Community champion Gillian Robison said: “Not only is the tree recyclable but it helps our customers engage in donating to The Hub.
New store manager Carla Bickle said: “I have worked all across the country in different stores with the company for the past 26 years and I have been overwhelmed by the community feel from this store since I came.”
Rupert Philbrick, from The Hub said: “We are still delivering to more than 50 families and individuals in Teesdale and this will help us to continue that support into the new year.
“What The Hub is doing was kickstarted by the pandemic but there is very clearly a need, so the fact that we can keep on giving is excellent.”
The store has also installed a donation station, in association with the Angel Trust charity, collecting toys that will be distributed to children who are likely to go without this Chrismas.
