Getting by with a little help from library friends

HELPING HAND: Members of The Friends of Barnard Castle Library did a roaring trade during their craft and bake sale

HANDMADE crafts and cakes were on offer as part of a fundraising event organised by The Friends of Barnard Castle Library.

All the items were made by a craft group who meet every Monday between 11am and 5pm. Their items included colourful and innovative mittens created from old jumpers.

Jewellery, Christmas tree ornaments, cards, knitted and crochets garments, as well as a wide variety of sumptuous homemade cakes, proved to be a big draw for readers as they came to replenish their books.

Celia Chappell, a member of The Friends of Barnard Castle Library, said all the money raised will go to the library.

She added: “We have been really pleased with how many people have come along.”
