Get ready for the Big Barney Book Hunt

Philippa Lyall

On your marks…get set for the Big Barney Book Hunt.

Tomorrow, Saturday February 21, more than 80 books will be hidden in Barnard Castle for children to discover.

The Barney Book Hunt is being organised by Philippa Lyall, who is an Independent Usborne Partner (IUP).

IUPs are self-employed booksellers who take books directly into their communities by working with everyone from schools and nurseries, to toddler groups and market stalls. The aim is to help children find the perfect book for them.

She said: “The Big Barney Book Hunt is launching in Barnard Castle to spread the joy of reading.

“Independent local businesses have sponsored about 80 books which will be hidden around the town for children to find, take home and read, and they can either keep the book or re-hide it.

“I’ve had fabulous support and lots of the lovely local businesses have already got involved by sponsoring the beautiful Usborne books, which will be ‘hidden’.

“Books are suitable for ages around two to 10 years and the children can keep hunting until they find one that suits them.”

Philippa, who is also known as the Barney Book Lady is encouraging the kids to register for the Barney Book Hunt.

Parents can do so on their behalf via tinyurl.com/BBBHregistration

Entrants will get free activity sheets and the chance to win an Usborne goody bag.

Philippa still has spaces for more businesses to support the Barney Book Hunt and sponsorship is £10 for four books.
