Gainford chippie’s free meals for those in need

KIND OFFER: Some families are finding it hard to make ends meet

GAINFORD’S fish and chip shop is offering free meals twice a week to struggling families in the village and the surrounding area.
Debbie Atkinson, from Debbie’s and Rachel’s Plaice, launched her “corona response free offer” scheme after hearing about a woman who struggled to feed her children after losing her job.
Ms Atkinson said: “We are aware that some people and their families are experiencing financial difficulties due to the government lockdown.
“Rachel and myself are strong supporters of our local community and we would like to offer a free meal to anyone who is experiencing genuine hardship during this difficult time. I would not like to think there is a bairn going to bed hungry.”
The offer is available on Thursday and Saturdays with orders to be placed by 4.30pm for collection between 5pm and 6pm.
Items that people can select through the scheme include chips, sausage, spam-fritter, fish cakes, chip butty, peas, curry, gravy or beans.
All orders will be treated confidentially and the scheme is open to struggling families in Gainford, Winston, Langton and Ingleton.
To place an order ring 01325 733330 and quote “corona response offer” .
