Fun zumba event raises cash for charities

GOOD TIME: Cotherstone Zumba Ladies presented Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK and the Great North Air Ambulance Service with bumper donations raised during a charity night TM pic

A FUN and exciting Latin-inspired fitness dance class got hearts pumping last month, raising funds for two health related charities.

Cotherstone Zumba Ladies organised the charity event at Cotherstone Village Hall, raising a total of £650, split between the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK and the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

Zumba instructor Sue Bainbridge said: “There were about 25 people taking part but there were quite a few watching. It’s the first time we have run a fundraising Zumba, but Julie Ann Teasdale has done a few before. We chose Cancer Research because it is close to one of the ladies we know. I chose GNAAS.”

In addition to the funds raised by the ladies, stalls on the night raised another £54 for GNAAS and £80 for Cancer Research. Ladies presented cheques to both charities on Monday, July 18, when they usually meet up for their weekly cardio session.

Brenda Thwaites, from the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK, said: “It was absolutely brilliant night and it was good to watch. It was really fun and different way to raise money.” The evening was so much fun the ladies are looking to organise another in the autumn.
