Town Crier Ian Kirkbride announces the start of festivities

Staff, pupils, family and friends got into the jubilee mood with an afternoon of activities at a Barnard Castle primary school. Town crier Ian Kirkbride kickstarted the outdoor fun at Montalbo Primary School. There were a host of traditional summer fete activities, such as tin can alley and a test of strength. Hook-a-duck also proved popular with the younger ones, while rolling a square bale of hay up and down was a real test of stamina. Elsewhere, there was a chance to take a selfie on a specially made throne, artwork from some of the older children was on display and year 6 pupils had also created a flower arrangement in the school’s garden. Montalbo School’s friends group had organised a fundraising sale and there were refreshments and a tombola. And, as the afternoon wore on, the sun came out. TM pic
