A FREE community Christmas Day dinner is again being held in Barnard Castle and organisers are keen to spread the word.
The event at TCR Hub is open to everyone but the centre’s chief executive, Rachel Tweddle, who will be cook for the day, is keen to “dispel the myth” that it is just for lonely older people.
She added: “The meal is open to anyone who might be alone at Christmas, regardless of background or circumstances. It could be parents of older children who have left home or those who don’t have a traditional family set up. Christmas can be stressful and expensive but we will take out the stress – and there will be no clearing up to do.”
About 15 people went along last year but Ms Tweddle says she is sure there would be others who would want to go that are just not being reached.
“We can definitely cater for up to 30. We’ve go the space and can manage in terms of food,” she said.
“The meal is free but we will accept donations, although they are not expected.”
The Hub will arrange transport from Barnard Castle and surrounding villages at about noon, with the food served at about 12.30pm. The mini-bus will drop people home at about 2pm.
