PUPILS at a dale primary are taking to the great outdoors after teaming up with a forest school in Startforth.
Staff from Bright Woods, which is based at the Deepdale Nature Reserve, visit Ingleton Primary School each week for classes in the school grounds. Topics include everything from den building to campfire cooking.
Teacher Lauren Dominick said the classes had proved popular with children, who were coming to terms with missing long periods at school due to the Covid-19 alert.
“Because of that six months off, their wellbeing is a priority,” she said. Ms Dominick added that the classes were also helping children rebuild friendships and putting a smile back on their faces after spending so much time isolated from one another. Bright Woods is a community interest company which encourages children to be independent and adventurous. The company works with a range of organisations such as toddler and home education groups and also offers outdoor birthday parties.
