First meeting for veterans’ group

NEW GROUP: Some of the forces veterans and their families who attended the new group in Evenwood

THE inaugural meeting of a veterans group has been held at the Randolph Centre, in Evenwood.

The group is supported by the Wear Valley division of the Durham branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

The new group was organised by Ruth Wright, the SSAFA Wear Valley treasurer and the branch president Mike Donne.

The group was formed so that veterans of both regular and reserve forces and their families can meet to chat over old times.

Importantly liaison with other interested people will allow the veterans to receive advice on a number of issues such as health, finance and well being.

At the first meeting was Andrea Hobbs, of the Teesdale Day Clubs, which hopefully will lead to a partnership that may include a veterans’ dinner club.

The meeting was well attended by both regular and reserve veterans their wives and a mother-in-law.
