YOUNGSTERS in Evenwood hit all the right notes during a sponsored singathon to help raise money for a new outdoor learning space.
Members of the community were welcomed at Evenwood Primary School to watch nursery and reception children sing their hearts out to 25 songs.
The children were sponsored to take part in the singathon, which was organised to help raise money for new outdoor resources for the early years unit.
The fundraiser included five songs performed by the children using Makaton signs.
Early years teacher Charlotte Hill said: “We are wanting to revamp the outside area into a jubilee garden ready to celebrate 25 years of the nursery. There is a big emphasis at the moment on outdoor learning and we want it to be free flow between the classroom and outside. Being outside is the perfect opportunity for children to develop their motor skills. We just need to update some resources.”
Plans for the new outdoor learning environment include a mud kitchen, a reading area which will include a story chair, a literacy area and a maths area. A cake sale and a tombola was also held to help boost fundraising efforts.
Mrs Hill said: “We had a non-uniform day to raise money for tombola prizes and both the children and adults have baked for a cake sale. It has been a whole school effort.”
Evenwood and Barony Parish Council donated £100 towards the garden and Barclays bank has also agreed to match fund up to £1,000.
The revamp is expected to cost £2,000 and it is hoped it will be completed in time for the 25th anniversary open day at the nursery on Saturday, July 7.
