ITEMS created by young people using upcycled materials are to be showcased at a festival this weekend.
Members of the TCR Hub’s eco-club, at Shaw Bank, Barnard Castle have been making coasters using tiles, ornaments from fabrics and shopping bags from old curtains, all of which will be on display during the centre’s Durham Festival of Wellbeing which features live music, creativity workshops, exercise sessions and food and nature sessions.
The Hub youth worker Alison Mawer said: “The eco-club has been using things donated that cannot be recycled to show how they can be up-cycled. They have been collecting crisp packed and making blankets for the homeless. It takes 80 years for a crisp packet to degrade when it is taken to landfill.”
Th club meets every Tuesday and Thursday and still has openings for two young people who might be interested in joining. People can contact The Hub on 01833 690150 to sign up or to find out about this and other activities going on during the school holidays.
