Dozy parkers causing problems at funerals

BLOCKING THE WAY: The scene at Staindrop

MOTORISTS are ignoring “no parking” bollards (pictured) placed outside a church entrance during funerals.
This can result in congestion on the main A688 through Staindrop, outside St Mary’s Church, members of the parish council were told. Cllr Dilys Caygill said she had received a number of emails from residents about the problem, with those living in Front Street keen to point out they were not among those ignoring the bollards.
The meeting was told that when the issue was raised with Revd Ken Steventon, he had confirmed the church was powerless to do anything about the situation.
Chairman Cllr David Reed said it was a disgraceful state of affairs.
“It’s more about respect than anything else,” he added.
Members agreed to raise the issue with Insp Ed Turner when he attends the council’s April meeting.
