OVERWHELMED by the support she received last year, a Barnard Castle businesswoman has launched her third annual winter coat drive to provide warmth to those in need.
Hundreds of scarves, hats and gloves were donated during Donna Dobson’s appeal last year which were given out to homeless people across the region.
Ms Dobson, who runs The Fox and Field clothing store, said: “Teesdale – it never ceases to amaze me how generous people are.
“Last year we appealed for hats, scarves and gloves and we did get a lot.”
This year people are being encouraged to bring in unwanted coats, flasks, backpacks, hats, gloves and scarves, sleeping bags and blankets.
All of the items collected will go to the Influence Church for distribution to those in need.
Along with the appeal Ms Dobson is holding a raffle for a gift bag of slippers, belts, scarves, jewellery and a handbag from her suppliers.
Tickets can be bought at her shop on Market Place.
She said: “It will do someone some really good presents for Christmas.”
For the second successive year the businesswoman is to take part in the Centrepoint charity’s sleep over at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.
She said: “It is uncomfortable because you are sleeping on concrete on the concourse. This year will be more realistic.
“Last year our team raised the most money – we raised more than £3,000 – so they are letting us sleep outside on the pitch.”
Centrepoint is a charity that provides accommodation and support for young people who find themselves homeless.
