Donations pay for smart and warm training coats

THANK YOU: Some of the under-9s in their new coats before their victory against Billingham on Sunday

YOUNG footballers will be able to keep warm on the touchline after generous donations paid for snug winter coats.

Barnard Castle FC’s under-9s team now have 17 Nike training coats, which each have the club’s badge and player’s initials.

The club has thanked all those who gave cash – Harry Lincoln, Steve Atack, Footprint PR, county councillors James Rowlandson and George Richardson, and

GlaxoSmithKline.

The team’s coach, Mel Thwaites, said: “The boys of Barnard Castle FC under-9s would like to thank everyone who has generously donated to kitting them out in matching winter training coats. In what is our first season together we have been making a point of building up a sense of all being one team and all being together.

“Boys of this age soon lose body temperature which can take a long time to redress.

“Having these super smart matching coats not only keeps them warm but adds to the sense of togetherness. Thank you so much.”

The boys love their coats so much many of them are now wearing them to school, as well as on matchdays.

The under 9s play in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance League.

This season they have made it through to the semi final of the Challenge Cup and will play against Darlington Quakers on April 5.
