A CHANCE encounter at Wolsingham Show last year led to a surprise celebrity visit to Cotherstone Primary School last week.
Teacher Jennie Lee was visiting the show last year where she met ITV’s Danny Murphy, the Dare Master, who had been dared by producers to take on strong man activities.
By coincidence school pupils Rupert and Isla were also at the show and helped Danny beat the strong man at tug o’ war.
Through that connection Danny, along with producer Christopher Luke, ITV sign language presenter Emily Bell and sign language interpreter Lucy Hearn, paid the school a visit.
Danny, who is 19 and deaf, said it was his first visit to Teesdale.
He added: “It is lovely to be invited to do this. It is a lovely area and really beautiful. I definitely want to come back – it would be nice to have a holiday here.”
The Dare Master addressed a whole school assembly where the children were stunned to see a television celebrity at their school.
He then visited the different classes and spoke about being deaf and taught children how to do British sign language. Later he had the children doing their own dare challenges.
