Curtain rises on Matilda and Robin Hood at Green Lane school

Green Lane Primary School's cast of Matilda the Musical

LITTLE actors from Green Lane Primary School, in Barnard Castle, have wowed audiences with their production of the West End’s Matilda the Musical.
The script of Matilda the Musical was designed for much older children but deputy headteacher Nic Linsley said pupils had wanted to do it and had been learning their lines and songs since Easter.
She added the whole school was involved in the production, with each class singing a different song during the 90-minute performances.
Ms Linsley added that two clubs were formed with a Monday club for the stage crew who worked the lighting and scenery and a Thursday club for the cast to do rehearsals.
A full dress rehearsal was held on Monday last week followed by public performances on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Teacher Rachel Harris, who helped with the production, said: “The bits of feedback we have had is they can’t believe the children learned so many lines. They are challenging lines.”
The deputy headteacher added: “It has gone very well, we are really proud of the children.”
