Curry night to help improve safety at tracks

TRAGIC LOSS: Thomas Brown

A CURRY night to raise funds for safety improvements at motocross events has been organised by the family of a man who died two years ago after an accident at a practice track.

Thomas Brown, 27, from Marwood, was killed at a motocross event near Low Hardwick Farm, at Sedgefield, in 2017. Following his death his family set up the Thomas Brown Memorial Fund and have been campaigning for Thomas’ Law to raise awareness of practice track safety ever since.

The family have organised a number of fundraising events and the money is used to provide practice tracks with free safety boards display important information for emergency services including helicopter landing sites, hospital contact details as well as rider briefing information.

Mr Brown’s sister, Eleanor, said: “Thomas’ Law is a safety campaign that as a family we have started with a vision we can improve safety and regulations at practice tracks across the country.

“Thomas was a fun outgoing person who loved curry and the craic with the lads at the Bengal. So come to celebrate and raise some money for a good cause in his memory.”

The curry night, which will be held at the Bengal Merchant, in Barnard Castle, will take place on Monday, July, 29. Tickets for the event cost £20 and include a mixed starter with a choice of lamb bhuna, chicken tikka masala and a vegetable curry.
