A SELFIE booth has opened encouraging people to become Dominic Cummings.
The mobile booth featuring a painting of the infamous government advisor has been raising a laughs and cash for charity since it appeared in Barnard Castle.
It is the brainchild of artist Leonardo Casey, who created an acrylic painting of Mr Cummings who landed in hot water after visiting Barney last year during lockdown to “test his eyesight” .
Mr Casey has been raising money for Guide Dogs for the Blind with profits from
the sale of prints, postcards and T-shirts featuring his artwork.
He said: “I’ve raised about £400 so far and the mugs have done really well.
“The idea for the booth came about after speaking to my friend Rebecca.
“She was going to do a window display of Mr Cummings and I thought, why not do a selfie booth as it would raise a bit of a giggle. I’ve had a lot of help off people to do this, especially William Smiths.”
His artwork was blown up with Dominic Cummings’ head cut out. For a donation people can take a selfie of themselves as Cummings.
The booth is currently in Pear Tree gift shop, in Horsemarket, but Mr Casey says the intention is to take it on tour, visiting different premises.
He added: “Every Thursday evening it’s going to the Old Well pub when they do their open mic night. We had it there last week and it went down a storm.”
Fundraiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind and former footballer Dave Thomas, from Lartington, popped along
for the unveiling of the selfie booth. He said: “It’s a really great initiative.
“The difference a guide dog makes to people’s lives is incredible and the selfie booth is a wonderful idea at highlighting awareness.”
