PLANNING for the Christmas fair at Middleton-in-Teesdale auction mart is underway and organisers hope it provides something for residents to look forward to in what has become a “very strange year”.
The fair has become a popular event for crafters and trades people since it was
first hosted in 2012 and arrangements have been made to make the event Covid secure.
Emma Spry, from organisers Utass (Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services, said: “This very strange year is somehow slipping away at a rapid pace.
“Here at Utass we’re at least trying to keep something ‘normal’.
“We are confident that with the current government guidance the event can go ahead, albeit spaced out and socially distanced this year.”
When the fair started, there were 12 stalls and it has grown in popularity with 64 stalls in 2019. This year it will be capped at 50.
The fair will take place on Saturday, November 28, between 10am and 3pm.
Ms Spry added: “We really feel small businesses and crafters need events like this more than ever this year to showcase their products. People can also have a festive experience and shop local for Christmas.”
To ensure the event is Covid-secure, Utass is appealing for volunteers to act as stewards through the day, helping to greet visitors and guide people.

Volunteers will need to dress warmly, but all other required PPE will be provided.
Bookings for stalls are being taken and anyone interested should also contact Utass.
