Cotherstone Primary School celebrated its 60th anniversary with an open afternoon for past and present pupils.
The day was formally opened by some of its first pupils followed by a school assembly led by the Revd Mike Catling.
All present were invited to sing the hymn, All Things Bright and Beautiful, which was followed by remarks from Julie Gibson, headteacher of Bowes Cotherstone Federation.
The Cream Tees band played throughout the afternoon – made up of some past and present Cotherstone School pupils – and part-funded by Teesdale Action Partnership.
Sweet treats and teas were served from the school kitchen. There was traditional country dancing and then a 60th anniversary drone photograph was taken.
A memorial tree, donated by Sam Turners, was planted to mark the occasion.
Commemorative teddy bears were gifted to all current children on roll to mark the occasion and are also available to buy for a donation towards Friends of Cotherstone School, from the Old Chapel Café and Shop, and also aerial photos for a suggested donation of £1.
The school also revealed its new sign at the front of the building and a scavenger hunt and ‘mud and more’ activities were available in the afternoon.
There was great interest shown in the display of photographs, articles and memorabilia on display in the hall. Visitors enjoyed a trip down memory lane or learned about the history of Cotherstone Primary School.
