A TEESDALE village hall is celebrating after being awarded £9,383 for a major refresh.
Lands Village Hall has been given the money by the The National Lottery Community Fund.
The cash will be used to refurbish the outdated kitchen so the organisation can enhance its ability to support food-related activities and events, and attract more users and hirers.
Coffee mornings at Lands Village Hall may soon be vying for space with breakfast clubs and lunch clubs in a push to provide the community with good value, nutritious hot food at reasonable prices.
Glenn Reffin, chairman of Lands Village Hall and project leader, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means we can get our kitchen up to the high standards we want for our hall and can start doing more to support our community.
“I have spent the last few weeks on the edge of my seat waiting for The National Lottery to consider our grant application, but it was a complete relief to receive the grant so we can do more for our community.
“This is the first stage of a programme of projects to refurbish our hall. It will make a huge difference to the people who use the hall.”
Claire Hunt, a hall user said, “What a huge difference this will make to people’s lives in our community. The hall has always been a great place for residents to meet and have a chat; this kitchen refurbishment will mean they can have a natter over a hot meal and it puts the hall back at the heart of the local community.”
Lands Village Hall expects to complete the work this summer.
