MEMBERS of a dale congregation were delighted with the number of visitors who attended an open day at their newly completed Kingdom Hall, in Barnard Castle.
Last month, renovation work to turn a former Victorian schoolroom into the town’s first Kingdom Hall was completed after more than 400 volunteers from across the UK helped out.
Paul DeForge, one of the original members of the congregation, said he was overjoyed with the new hall and was delighted to see so many people keen to have a look. He said: “We’re really made up with the hall and it’s lovely to see so many people here from the town taking a look at what’s been achieved.”
As well as getting a tour of the newly transformed hall, which has male and female toilets, a large meeting room, study room, entrance foyer and kitchen, visitors were also able to watch time lapse videos of the work. This included footage of the removal, cleaning and replacement of all the roof tiles.
During the four-month renovation of the former school room, the adjoining former United Reformed Church was used as a storage area and rest area.
After the work was completed the building was cleaned and turned into a pop up gallery complete with information and photographs from the build.
