Cracking on: Manager John Bogle outside the Randolph Community Centre’s new look façade.

A £150,000 REVAMP of Evenwood’s Randolph Community Centre culminated last month with a new front façade.
Wooden beams across the building’s entrance had become rotten after years of exposure to the weather.
Since his appointment in 2020, centre manager John Bogle has made it his mission to give the building a complete makeover which included interior redecoration, a new car park, renovating the wellbeing and wildlife garden, replacing the heating system and the installation of solar panels.
Much of the work was made possible through cash from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and County Durham Community Action.
Mr Bogle said: “It’s been a team effort and everyone pulling in the same direction to achieve things.
“Without great people behind the scenes none of
this would have been possible.”
He thanked in particular Sarah Billingham and other county council officers involved in the UKSPF, Durham Community Action’s officers and staff of the Rural Design Centre.
Mr Bogle added: “Thank you to the trustees of the Randolph Community Centre Foundation Trust for just letting me crack on to improve the building and facilities for the whole community to enjoy and use for years to come.”
The manager is now working on putting together furniture for a digital and ICT suite and recently took delivery of new laptops, desktop computer, tablets, printer and large screen digital whiteboard.
l The Randolph Community Centre is hosting an exhibition to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The static display in the centre’s foyer features photographs and details of the men from the village who fought in the war.
The exhibition was put together by Evenwood and District History Society.
