Cockfield kids learning to be lifesavers

KEEN: Matthew Lowes

MORE than 100 children have learned how to save lives by using first aid and their village’s defibrillator.

Community first responder Sue Bainbridge was impressed with the enthusiasm of pupils from Cockfield Primary School to pick up the skills they might need in an emergency when she visited on Wednesday, May 23.

Training took the form of a video demonstrating cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to place a person in the recovery position, followed by practical exercises using dummies. They also learned how to use a defibrillator.

Village defibrillator organiser Lesley Hall, who arranged the training in conjunction with headteacher Kathryn Heatherington, said: “I think it is brilliant. I hope it is something we can do every year.

“The children are so interested.”

Miss Hetherington said parents had also been invited to attend the training after school.
