Classic car show gearing up for bumper show at school

MOTOR MAGIC: Classic and Retro car show organiser Jonathan Wallis with sponsors Jonny Harper

MORE than 130 vehicles have already booked in for Barney’s Classic and Retro Vehicle Show on Sunday.

It is the third year the fundraising automotive display, which features a mini-run up the dale for car owners, has been held at Barnard Castle School.

Despite recent bad weather organiser Jonathan Wallis is confident the sun will be shining on the day, when Barnard Castle Band will be entertaining visitors, for the bumper show.

He said: “The weather is looking good for the weekend but if the rain continues the field won’t be right for the cars to come in. We’ve got 135 booked in and another 35 on a waiting list and that’s growing.”

The event has been supported by local businesses High Force Scaffold, New Bridgegate Tyres, McGarry’s Solicitors and Harpers Developments ensuring money raised by the event goes towards the town’s Christmas Lights Group and Cancer Research UK.

Mr Wallis added: “I believe though this weekend will be the start of a heatwave, but I’d advise people to bring their ponchos along just in case.”

There will be catering and refreshments on site along with afternoon tea stands and a bar. Entry is free for spectators but donations are welcome. The show opens at 9am with the car run scheduled to depart about 11am.
