PUPILS and staff at Green Lane Primary School are celebrating after being recognised as being in the top three percent of schools in England for achievement in reading, writing and maths.
The secretary of state for education, Damian Hinds, wrote a letter of congratulation to the school on the achievement, which is based on results published in December.
Headteacher Rob Goffee said: “It means a huge amount to us.
“It is great for the staff and children to get an accolade like this and to get it from the secretary of state is the icing on the cake.
“For us to get well above average in all three core subjects is absolutely fantastic.
“The staff have worked so hard to achieve that and the students have been very determined.
“We try to instil an ethos where every child can achieve – it is about having high expectations for all the children and we want to challenge them.
“We are also well aware education is not just about results and scores on the doors and tests.
“Our ethos is educating for life in all its fullness.
“We want to produce well-rounded young people who are ready for secondary school.
“We try make learning fun and give the children opportunities outside of the classroom.”
