Church walk raises cash for good causes

GOOD CAUSES: Kit Heywood

A WALK organised as part of a global prayer initiative ended up raising hundreds of pounds for good causes.

Ten members of the congregations at Holy Trinity, Startforth, and St Mary’s, Hutton Magna, organised the walk to coincide with the Thy Kingdom Come initiative, which takes place between Ascension and Pentecost.

Kit Heywood, a member of the Holy Trinity congregation, then suggested those taking part could raise money.

After Sunday’s service at Holy Trinity, he handed over cheques for £135.60 to the church and to Wetheriggs Animal Sanctuary, where he volunteers.

A donation was also made to the Oaklea Trust, which provides support to Mr Heywood.
