KIND-HEARTED pupils at a dale primary school have donated a sack full of festive goodies to a foodbank as part of a Christmas advent scheme.

Children at St Mary’s RC Primary School, in Barnard Castle, gathered together a huge amount of treats in the lead up to Christmas.

Leanne Porter, deputy headteacher, said: “The children in class have been thinking a lot about others in the community since they have been back in school. It has been tough year for everyone and they wanted to do something special.”

Owls class pupil Chloe came up with the idea for the advent foodbank, which saw her and her classmates bring in an item of food each day.

She said: “I just thought of bringing in something for other people. Some people might have a home, but they may not be able to afford special treats so we have all brought in some sweet stuff.”

The goodies, which included more than 21 selection boxes, tinned goods, sweets, and biscuits, were delivered to the TCR Hub, in Barnard Castle, to help with their care packages in the lead up to Christmas.
