TUNEFUL: Children from Cockfield school perform at the launch

A SHOP window decorated by children from Cockfield has been unveiled as part of an giant advent calendar scheme in Bishop Auckland.

Organised by the Bishop Auckland Town Team, the project sees a new shop window unveiled each day in the lead up to Christmas.

It is the second time Cockfield Primary School has been invited to decorate Trimmer’s hair salon in the town.

The children made various items based on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl.

David Pott, of the Town Team, said: “A special feature of Bishop Auckland’s Advent Windows this year is that 18 people from different nations are opening the windows during the month. All the windows, which are opening between December 1-24, display Christmas stories from around the world.”

Danish woman Majken Medlicott unveiled the window dressed by the pupils.

By coincidence, Danish people marked St Lucia’s Day on the day that the window was revealed – December 13.
