PUPILS at a dale school, who helped decide that their uniforms should be manufactured ethically are now helping model the new kit.
Green Lane Primary School, in Barnard Castle, became the first in the county to partner with Etika, an ethical school uniform company based in Birtley, County Durham, earlier in the year.
Pupils on the student council were keen to have their uniforms manufactured ethically.
Jo Long, a business consultant who has been working with Etika and the school on the project, said: “Building relationships with the school is very important to help bring a change in the garment industry.
“There are about 12 pupils who are featured on the website and there are quite a few that helped make the decision to use Etika.”
A dedicated area of the company’s website for Green Lane now features the children showing off the full range of uniforms.
Ms Long added the company has also launched a scheme for parents to pay for the uniforms in instalments rather than in one lump sum.
She said: “Parent Power is a scheme to help support parents with the cost of uniforms. Instead of having to fork out at all once they can pay so much a month, like a Christmas club.
“For every school that the children attending, they will be the models of their own uniforms.”
