Charity group says thank-you to hospital staff

THANK YOU: Friends of the Richardson Hospital presented staff with a commemorative plaque and individual George Cross badges on the anniversary of the award by Queen Elizabeth II

A GEORGE Cross plaque has been presented to staff at Richardson Hospital, in Barnard Castle, as a thank you from a charity group.
The NHS was awarded the George Cross by the Queen in July last year in recognition of 73 years of service including efforts by healthcare workers battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was only the second time the Queen has collectively bestowed the award – the highest for civilian gallantry and heroism,
On the anniversary of the award, the Friends of the Richardson Hospital gave staff a framed plaque of the award, including a copy of the Queen’s handwritten message and a replica medal.
Pauline Harrison, chairwoman of the Friends of Richardson Hospital, said: “They have done a marvellous job with everything we have been through and what they continue to do for the town and the people of Teesdale.”
The fundraising group also commissioned special George Cross badges for every member of staff at the hospital, which has been the central vaccination hub in Teesdale during the pandemic.
Mrs Harrison added: “The badges are for all members of staff at the hospital from top to bottom and it was a way
for the friends to say thank you.”
