Following their successful quilting exhibition in Gainford Village Hall, Teesdale Quilters have donated more than £2,200 to local charities.
Denise from Shildon’s Salvation Army collected a number of smaller quilts that will help them in their out-reach work supporting local families. She was thrilled with the quilts, saying: “Each is a unique gift for someone in our area. I am sure each one will be loved.”
On October 19, Cheryl, from the Great North East Air Ambulance Service collected a cheque for £750. The money was partly raised from the table-top sale of curtaining fabric pieces, threads and patterns as well as a donation from the quilters.
Teesdale Quilters’ raffle of two quilts and a donation from the Quilters meant St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington were presented with a cheque for £1,359. This was received by Deborah Gibbs, hospice community fundraiser.
A donation of £200 was made to Peter Dransfield to help fund the running and publication of Gainford’s monthly newsletter which is a vital community publication. The quilters also paid for freestanding toilet roll holders for the village hall.
Teesdale Quilters would like to thank all those who made the exhibition possible and to the generosity of the people who came to see the show.
