A DALE accounting firm raised more than £25,000 for cancer research at their annual charity ball last month.
During the past 11 years, Butler & Gee Accountants has raised some £113,166 for the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
The latest event, on October 21, at the Morritt Hotel, was attended by 170 clients and guests who enjoyed entertainment of dancing Las Vegas showgirls and live music by The Tone Riders.
Chris Butler, of the firm, said: “It was our best event yet and it is the most we have raised in a single event. The tickets were sold out.
“The clients and guests were very generous with their support. It was our first event since Covid – our last one was in 2019.
“The big event on the evening is a charity auction, which is how we generate most of our funds. The auction included spa days, Ferrari rides, VIP tickets to Newcastle Cathedral’s Christmas Concert, airplane tours and lots of golf sessions and carting.
“We actually raised £12,588 on the night, but then an amazing lady, Carol Carthy, basically doubled it up by match-funding it.
“We would like to thank our clients who provided the auction items and supported the event. We’d like to thank the Morritt as well. Clare Bayles, at the Morritt, was very helpful and accommodating as was all of her team.”
The event coincided with the Turn Barney Pink campaign which raised more than £4,000 and was a significant factor in the Teesdale branch of CRUK being able to raise £90,000 over the year.
Jan Leafe, of Cancer Research UK, said: “We are delighted to once again work in partnership with Butler & Gee Accountants on behalf of the Teesdale branch.
“In particular we are delighted that they were willing to accept the Double the Impact challenge which means even more funds to ensure people can live longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.”
