Castle operators delighted with visitor numbers during Barney’s 1940s weekend

BOWLED OVER: Traditional games were staged in the castle grounds during 1940s weekend

FOLLOWING the success of a 1940s weekend in Barnard Castle a date has already been earmarked in to host another next year.

Members of Barnard Castle town council partnership committee said congratulations should be extended to organisers and those who participated for all their hard work in putting together such a successful event.

Council clerk Michael King reported that there had been a wealth of positive feedback from residents, visitors and businesses in the town. He said most shops and businesses in town had entered into the spirit of the event, decorating their windows in 1940s style.

He reported English Heritage had been happy with the additional footfall into the castle grounds over the weekend. And they were happy to look at move some of the exhibitions into the grounds for next years’ event, which would free up the Scar Top for other activities.

A date has been earmarked to host the event in 2019, though this will be confirmed at a future meeting.
